why does it always snow on me
nomad's back from the Himalayas with loads of tales funny ,weird and eerie to outright scary , all that from one trip ,like a bollywood movie.
what was meant to be another easy trek ,turned out to be 'difficult' by day-1 ,'very tough' by day-2 and "why in the world did i come here' by day-3 ,'impossible' by day-4 ,and 'absolute living on the edge' by day-5
if u read the trek itenary in the previous posting ,just ignore and forget that ..
the signs were there for us ,we just missed them somehow
we missed our connecting train from delhi to haridwar,ended up in a late night run to ISBT bus stand to catch the last bus to haridwar
then came the crazy 7 hr sumo ride through the ghat section ,from haridwar to uttarkashi,was probably the closest one could get to experiencing a WRC car rally ,hitting avg speed of 45kph ,while wicket after wicket were falling ( vomiting spree if you like)on one hand ,the bihari driver on the other extreme was genuinely concerned that we were not going at necessary speeds !!!
then there was the cold wave sweeping north India, the day we landed in the town of uttarakashi aka base camp
two porters we hired disappeared (didn't turn up for the trek), after the overnight heavy snowfall
ignoring all these signs (conveniently), the 9 nomads started off the trek as per plan ...

Where does this blog go from here
my blog started as a travel blog ,and then bschool happened
not the other way around , which is usually the case :)
and for the last two years it looked like a terrible self glorifying bschool blog,
telling you the same stories of assts and submissions and placements...
i dont know if you guys liked it ,but it turned out pretty boring for me ,esp towards the 2nd year
it's time my blog goes back to where it belongs , a travelog
however, i will revisit the bschool thing before i finish my MBA for couple of useful postings ( April 20 )
right now its nomad's blog back again
and what better way than to start off with our Himalayan trek
9 of us are heading off to Uttaranchal tomorrow evening for a 6-day Himalayan trek
check out the collablog we are doing

I never bought a nokia
I never bought a nokia
My first cell phone was the (pre-sony ) ericsson ,then samsung R220
again another samsung (N620) and now motorola
i gifted LGs , samsungs etc
but never never a nokia
maybe i was too irritated by the hype around nokia
maybe i didn't want to pay the premium
or maybe i liked underdogs !
Nokia N95 could change that

Aspiring business leaders reach out to PMO ...
lets say , this is in continuation to my previous post
Our team won the 2nd prize at IIMK - WhiteKnight ,which means the suggestions are going straight to the PMO :)
This event also brings me to the end of competitions and events as a bschooler.
I've participated in whole bunch of events and competitions ,especially second year,and there are some great lessons to be learnt by trying out and ,even better, winning some of the events
Adds to your confidence,soft skills,apply (whatever little )MBA learnings,meet new people,travel ,get away from classes ,and importantly,earn some decent prize money ..
In fact i was thinking i can write an entire posting on the 'business' of bschool events.

"Any takers for a project that would transform rural India through a spirit of small enterprise, entrepreneurship and technology?
Well, some time during the course of this month the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) would sit through two award winning presentations detailing social business plans that aim at a radical transformation of the country’s rural economy.
These inputs for possible policy prescriptions are not by economists, planners or academicians. In fact, the detailed road map for social and economic change have been prepared by students who were the participants in a Business Plan contest called White Knight organized by the IIM – Kozhikode.

The participants in the contest -- with ‘Inclusive Growth’ as its underlying theme – had to come up with ideas that would bring about a marked difference to agriculture, rural development and health care and renewable energy

ISB, Hyderabad which came first presented the Project Maurya, that seeks to usher in a ‘Golden Revolution’ which will be founded on the principle of small-scale enterprise, industrial growth, entrepreneurship and technology.

The SP Jain institute, Mumbai, the team that came second, presented a project to correct the lopsided growth and investments.

Among the hundreds of entries that came in 10 were short-listed. The ten final entries were judged by panel of eminent scholars.

But the most coveted prize for the top five teams is that their projects would be presented to the office of the most well known economist in the country who incidentally happens to be the most powerful policy maker also - Dr Manmohan Singh "

The lone Knight and inclusive growth
The next bschool event / comptetition on our agenda is the RIL WhiteKnight at IIMK Backwaters.
The event is about driving inclusive growth strategies across various sectors.Our team picked,not surprisingly, "Rural Sector" and proposed four specific implementable ideas under education and livelihood options.
Unfortunately, only one of our team members could go to IIMK for the final presentation to esteemed panel comprising of PMO representatives.
Well ! , will keep you posted about the exploits of the lone warrior.
